Asbestos Roof Replacement

Why do you need to replace your Asbestos Roof?

Prior to 1980s, Asbestos roofs are known for their long term durability, low cost and fire resistance. As a result, most of the roofs on houses built prior to 1990s in New Zealand have asbestos in them.

In recent decades, the research has showed several diseases caused by exposure to asbestos. Some of these include mesothelioma, lung cancer, asbestosis, and pleural thickening. These diseases are fatal and has related an estimated 107,000 deaths and 1,523,000 Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs).

According to statistics from World Health Organisation, rougly 125 million people in the world are exposed to asbestos. Diseases caused through asbestos exposure generally cause problems later in life and hence it is difficult to find out the ongoing symptoms until it’s too late.

The table below shows residential risk assessment based on age of home and presence of asbestos-containing materials.
